No watchlist tonight folks. Tonight, I pray.
Today was a very dismal day for a lot of us. My heart goes out to those lost in the massacre in Las Vegas and to their families that have to deal with the aftermath of that psycho. I believe there is a special place in hell for the person that could inflict those type of atrocities. However, that doesn't bring satisfaction or peace to the friends and families of those lost. Mothers and Fathers that will no longer kiss their kids goodnight... Children with no parents... Sons and Daughters that will no longer call to say "I Love You". Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, boyfriends, girlfriends, friends... All taken at a moments notice.
There are terrible things that happen every day all across this world but not in this magnitude on our own soil. I believe there is no excusable sin and I know there are many committed each day that do not get the media coverage like these do. Then whenever something like this happens, the town-criers get back on their soapboxes to preach gun control and peace and love and how prayer does nothing for those affected... They'll scream "this is the wake up call America! We need gun control!" And I ask you...was this the wake up call? Or was Columbine the wake up call? Or Virginia Tech? or Tucson? Or Sandy Hook? Or Aurora Colorado? Or Charleston South Carolina? Or Orlando Florida? Or is it now Las Vegas? Las Vegas.... Nope! This one is the final straw! Oh, horseshit. What riots or protests will fill the streets? What petitions will be nationally signed? What laws will be put in place that will not be broken? None.
This isn't about race or prejudice. This is not about oppression. This is simply just pure evil. Many people will say "guns don't kill people! People do!" And I do not disagree. It takes a person to kill another person. BUT! Last time I checked...we don't fight our wars with water balloons and pool noodles.... We fight them with guns. Why? Because they kill people.
But lets face it...there won't be a big movement. There won't be a rally promoting peace and love. There won't be a single gathering. You will all sit here and think "Shit...That's crazy. We live in a crazy, crazy world." Then tomorrow you'll be back at your desk or your job doing whatever you were doing before this happened.
We are our own worst enemy...our own kind...killing one another. War has become a natural way of life. Massacres occurring across the world. We are the fuel that feeds the fire. What would this world be like if there were no fear? What world would we leave for our children if the world cared deeply about one another? A world without war... A world with murder?
Tonight I say a prayer for the lives lost and the friends and families of those lost or affected that they will find peace during this time of tragedy and sadness. I pray that we as a human race will find peace as well. I pray that we set our differences aside and find a way to grow closer as a people and live peacefully amongst one another. I pray that each and every one of you will genuinely ask someone each day "how are you doing?" and truly mean it. You will never know the face of depression and evil when it is smiling back at you but you just might make a difference in those peoples lives if you try. Evil will always exist in this world. But evil cannot THRIVE in a world trying to do good. A world trying to change. A people trying to change. I will try.
So tonight, I pray. Amen.
