I am using a practice account with Marketwatch; it allows me to start with 100k and I am using a marginalized account. It jumps to 200k; in three days, I am making more than 11K, but this is only a practice account. I am still worrying about the commission since I am trading all the time.
With either Scottrade or ETrade, both right around $7 to open a position that is $14 for then entire transaction...that is 14% right out the bat. I just do not know how much can one really trade when the fees are 14%!
@Alpha_Omaga I use Interactive Brokers, check this link for the pricing https://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/index.php?f=1590 I have never heard of TradeZero. As for free trades…there has to be a catch. Usually the fills with those brokers are not great. You shouldn’t worry about paying commissions if you’re making profitable trades. But be careful, paper trading is a whole different experience than the real thing.
Thanks Sam! It made a lot of sense when talking about profits, but with interactivebroker, 1000 shares = $5, therefore, 5000 shares = $25, I think I have decided to go with Scottrade, $7 flat. No more practice account for me.
