Bought $ZAIS February 6 for $2.16/share, and stayed long. Since it wasn't moving to much I decided to sell it at 3:50pm yesterday for a $12 loss, and now today it hit $4.40/share. Is there something I should pay attention to when staying long? It just seemed like it was settling down and there was no news coming? Any suggestions for staying long in a stock?

If a stock doesn't do what you expect it to do, then I would get out. Why staying invested in something that doesn't move? You could've bought today's breakout over the pre-market highs. I never stay long in a stock more than 1 day. If it doesn't give me a morning spike, I'm out. Stay in cash most of the time.
I think you bought on a day with no volume and wasn't a top % gainer. It's better to buy on the day that it moves unless your plan to swing trade but you need patience for that. You were right to sell it because it got down to 1.88 at some point and that's a 13% loss. So if you're day trading wait for the stock to hit the top % gainer and go from there
Also you wouldn't have been able to predict the news. It's all about reacting not predicting so when it moves then react to the price action
I appreciate all the feedback, thank you.
