Level II data is usually formatted in columns as Market maker / Price / Size for both the Bid and the Ask.
As an idea to better see the battlefront, there is a setting in Interactive Brokers workstation that lets you MIRROR the Bid and Ask:
In a mirrored format you can move the battleground to the center of the screen and have lesser info move to periphery. So, either price or size could be your most important comparison and that goes in the middle, then lower in hierarchy as you move out from center:
Experiment if the mirrored arrangement is easier to digest than the left to right format for Bid and Ask!

What market data do you subscribe to on IB for your level II/
I use the NASDAQ TotalView-OpenView for $15 and OTC Markets for $16 on Level II.
