DISCLAIMER: I have only been trading stocks for 1 month, and everything I am posting here is purely speculative. I do not have any inside information. This is purely a hunch. Also, I am currently long LQMT.
So, here we go:
I am currently long LQMT, and will likely hold until after the Apple iPhone reveal on September 12th (tomorrow). Here's why...
1. Back in 2010 $LQMT announced a deal with Apple and their stock skyrocketed. Seemingly nothing came from it so it came back down very quickly and has had small spikes and crashes since then, hovering under 0.2 for a long time.
2. The last several iterations of the iPhone have not used liquid metal encasings, but it is highly rumored that the next iPhone will utilize liquid metal in the design (even rumors about a supposed patent with liquid metal casing for the next iPhone).
3. Jason Bond (however you may feel about him) posted in April of 2017 that he had a very large position (400,000 shares) in LQMT, citing rumors of liquid metal in Apple's upcoming phone as well as other reasons for his position size.
4. The month of August 2017 (normally weak month for the stock market) has shown an overall increase in volume and stock price for LQMT (especially the last two weeks, although the last few days have been red...so grain of salt...although it could be a pullback before a large run-up).
5. During Q2 of this year, LQMT reported earnings, and that it had recently acquired two more hot crucible machines that are three times larger, and less expensive to use. This will allow them to increase production. They also recently moved to a larger facility which is only 6 hours from Cupertino...(so larger facility, more crucibles, increased production...)
6. LQMT chairman, Professor Lugee Li, has been very successful with his previous business ventures growing companies like crazy and has only recently taken over at LQMT as of December 2016. Here is a quote from him regarding the recent moves for LQMT: “The Company is making significant progress towards expanding its manufacturing capabilities. With the renovation of our state of the art facility nearing completion, we can begin commissioning our manufacturing operations with both our hot and cold crucible amorphous metal molding machines. Exciting times are upon us.”
7. Lastly, there has been no news since 8/22. You may view this as a negative, but Apple is notoriously tight-lipped with its new product releases. Everything we learn about them typically comes from leaks. My guess is that if Apple finally decided to utilize the liquid metal technology after entering into an agreement with LQMT in 2010 and then took their time to get things perfect, that LQMT would be completely silent about it so they didn't violate their contract.
So, that's it. The new iPhone will be revealed tomorrow. If LQMT does nothing, I will simply get out, but if there is news and it runs (or maybe even runs without news)...it has potential to run BIG if it is associated with the next iPhone.
