Intro:

I was (understandably) bummed about my career P/L in past, but I'm realizing as I get better at trading that I will close this gap as soon as I'm trading well enough.

So for 2022 I'm giving myself permission to go back into the red for the year (up a couple hundred bucks so far) as long as I'm trading intelligently and playing promising setups, not just any random gapper.

Tennis analogy:

I do watch a lot of ATP tennis and I think it's analogous to trading in the sense that it's a highly individual journey of development, but one must be consistent and have exceptional skills to succeed at the highest level.

So in tennis, what are the kinds of skills you need to get good at? I'm going to list what I think are (as an amateur player) some of the most important skills.

1. The serve

2. Ground strokes

3. Endurance

4. Strength

5. Volleys

6. Footwork

7. Game smarts

8. Smashes

9. Lobs

10. Drop shots

In tennis you need a well rounded skillset to succeed and be exceptional at some of those things.

Now I am aware that you can be really good at one thing in trading and make a career out of it. But as a (relatively) new trader I think it's important in my journey to build the most well rounded skillset for any market. So in no particular order here are various skills I want to master to become the best trader possible.

Trading skills:

1. Options day trading (long calls, long puts)

2. Stock day trades, gappers and bounce plays

3. Long OTCs (morning dip buys, breakouts etc.)

4. Shorting (part time)

5. Swing trades

The plan is to grow my skillset as diverse as possible so I can take the setups that feel like "gimmes" to me. This will really help create my edge in the market that I can make a career out of.

This is by no means the only pathway, but this works for my personality. I am an action seeker by nature, so having a much wider range of trades I can take, it will help me stop boredom trading and also keep the learning fun, because if I don't want to trade options one day I can look at gappers etc.
