This is getting really frustrating. I am using ThinkOrSwim paper trading from TDAmeritrade, and it's so ridiculous. I've gotten to the point where I can't really trade anymore, I can only watch the stocks do what I thought they would. I mean, I can find some stocks that work and spike, but I can't trade them.
For example, I tried trading ADOM this morning on a spike. The market was set at $5.73, so I bought in with 100 shares. It filled my order at like $5.23 which is impossible, then I was like, "Oh, now I want to get out on the run up of the spike." I tried selling at around $6.20, and it just wouldn't fill my order. Like there was plenty of volume, but it just wouldn't fill anything. So then I had to flatten my order just to get out. I mean I flattened it at $5.31 which is more than I bought in at, and it said I lost money on that also. Like I am so tired of trying to play these games.
I think I might just make my ETrade account and just watch the market without buying or selling until I am absolutely comfortable. Maybe trade like 10 shares just so I can possibly make enough to cover the commission cost. I think I'll just make an account so I can have live data and no delays and be able to trade like it's real, since it will be.
Any ideas on what to do???
*this is a paper trading account
@Madbash I heard Etrade Pro was pretty good. And I agree that real money helps you learn a lot better
@Assassin9 Sorry, I can't help you there. I don't use Profit.ly to show my paper trading trades. I would guess you would have to pay for a plan in order to get that.
@jonahhughes Yeah that makes sense. I think very small position is the best way to go, especially if you have a price per share broker, then you're only paying $2 round trip. If you decide to go with Stocks To Trade just remember that you won't be able to execute real trades through there so you're back to dabbling with whatever order entry platform your broker offers.
Hey brotha. Just wanted to let you know, I've also had this issue in the past. Here's what I do/have noticed. Right when market dings, it usually takes about 1 minute for paper trading servers to actually kick in. So at 9:31/9:32 you can begin paper trading on t.o.s. if for some reason you wanted to buy in a position before that, just remember the price it's trading at on the time/sales when you said buy and go into the "trade" tab on t.o.s - "all products" - type your stock in - right click on
