A lot of PCs come with a lame trial version of MS Office. I think that MS Office is overpriced and takes up too much space on your hard drive with its numerous features you most likely don't need. There are some other very good FREE alternatives.

1) Libre Office: This is what I'm using now and is working just fine for me

2) Open Office: This is what I used in the past and is very similar to Libre Office

3) Google Docs on your Google Drive. Just create a Google account then go to...

And for text files I like to use...

Also very FREE and lots of cool features.
