New here, so be somewhat gentle with me!!! I'm just trying to figure out all these different integrated platforms and tools and portals! Just realized there is a place to blog here today. So what the heck! Let's document this journey!
I'm 2 weeks into Tim's Challenge and also enrolled in the 30 day Bootcamp. Reading, studying, watching videos, doing homework, taking notes... there is so much information! Hard to get my arms around it all as I'm a complete newb to trading and terminology. I have an engineering degree (nearly recovered from that though) and I'd like to think I'm somewhat intelligent, but dang.... So much I don't know about the world of finance! I have the next 3 months off my full time job, so I'm leveraging that to study as much as I can to make the most of it. Super excited about this new journey!
Hunkered down this weekend to binge watch the DVDs. Not sure if I'm supposed to do them in a particular order or not from the syllabus. I've been jumping around a bit. So far I've completed watching the following in the past few weeks:
Student Portal:
- Orientation Lessons 1-11
- Challenge Homework 1-4
30 Day Challenge
- Bootcamp Days 1-3 complete
DVDs:
- Penny Stocking 1 (discs 1-4)
- Level 2 (disc 1)
- Penny Stock Framework (discs 1-3)
- Video lessons #1-10 from emails
- 'Wall Street Warrior' videos
READING:
-'The Complete Penny Stock Course' (chapter 1-2.4)
- 'An American Hedge Fund' - just started
Not to mention, getting myself setup with the tools I need like:
- brokerage account - ETrade and Etrade Pro($5000 margin account, although I will only be paper trading for now, until I get through more training material and feel a bit more comfortable using my hard earned money)
- StocksToTrade account, and bookmarking other tools that will be helpful (Yahoo Finance, BigCharts, FinViz, MarketWatch.... others??
- New email address and social media accounts dedicated to stock trading activity only (Twitter - QueenBee). So much email!!! Who to follow? How best to cut down on the noise, and get valid insight from trusted sources...
So far I'm only paper trading with ETrade / StocksToTrade. in the past 2 weeks, I'm up $408 paper with a 3% gain and a 64% win rate on 25 trades (not bad, right?). However, I'm not following the PDT rule yet, and not taking into account the fees I'll need to fork over per trade... so need to be mindful of those details going forward. Just wanted to get in and test the platforms and get a feel for what it's like, how to customize the interfaces and figure out what works best for me. Definitely need some time to master that aspect. I'm thankful I already have a dual monitor setup in my home office, as there are so many window to keep track of!! Opened to advice on which ones are the most important to monitor during the trading day (profit.ly chat rooms, Tim Alerts, Twitter, STT, brokerage account, .... what am I missing?
This seems like a pretty supportive community so far and I look forward to interacting with you all soon!!
Welcome! Being patient with myself is one of the biggest struggles I’ve had so far. I joined in August and also like to think I’m am intelligent person 😂 DANG is right!
I like your guts and determination...
