So I spent yesterday and today really hashing this out. I wanted a personal vision statement that I can keep coming back to, revisiting each time I evaluate my goals and progress.
I am also working on writing out some concrete goals and even some rules/guidelines for myself to help me reach those goals. First, however, I needed to lay out a solid foundation, and in order to do that, I looked at my core beliefs and values to answer a singular question:
Why?
Why am I doing this challenge? What is my core motivation? When I strip away everything else, what are the defining parts about my past that have brought me to where I am today and that will likely serve as waypoints as I step forward into the future?
No, this was not due to any existential dilemma or self-doubt. Rather, the exact opposite. I want to set some serious goals and rules for myself, and this is my process.
This is a more personal post. That’s because this post is ultimately for me to look back at throughout this process and remind myself where I started, a way to stay grounded.
Finally, I want to thank my family and friends (and even friends I've met here on profitly) for their feedback in writing this out.
Personal Vision Statement:
I have joined this challenge because I value education. I value learning how to trade penny stocks and believe this challenge can make me a better trader. Through studying, training, mentorship, and community, I strive to establish strong daily habits, shore up my weaknesses, and identify and overcome bad habits that could prevent me from reaching my goals.
As a novice trader, I believe my best chance at success is to cautiously respect the limits of my current knowledge, understanding, and ability, while also welcoming the knowledge, wisdom, and effort of the mentors and other students engaged in this process with me. Humility is key to my success and my greatest ally.
I have learned in my life that if I set my mind to learning a new skill—and pursue it with all diligence and adequate mentorship—I will one day reach my goals and beyond. I entered this endeavor because I believed wholeheartedly that success was possible from Day One; therefore, I will always look toward success.
I can recover from any loss, as the only true failure is not getting up again.
Finally, I am extraordinarily thankful for the support of my family and friends, as theirs was the catalyst I needed to breakout to new heights.
Well stated, Brian!
My heart is touched! You put this together very well! Success to you with your vision.
Thank you both. Ya’ll really inspire me! Thanks for being part of this with me.
Well done Brian. I've been following you and some other newer traders on Twitter and here for a short while, trying to gain a little insight on how to get started. All the best to you.
