I remember when I first hired my attorney, my first thought was, "OMG does he even shave yet?"
But I had done my research well and that red headed, freckle faced, boy child was winning more cases than he lost and he wasn't scared to face major Goliaths, which is just the kind of law firm I was up against. I had already fired my past attorney and didn't have much time to find my David to slay my Goliath. HIRED!!! Yes, I actually had my toes crossed on this one.
I liked the boy child and we got on greatly. We spent many hours chit chatting in person and on the phone @ $250 an hour. OUCH! I learned he paid his own way through college and law school by working nights. That's a big financial burden for a long haul. It took pure dedication. On top of that he finished law school at the top of his class. He's a real-life freak of nature and an inspiration to anyone who has an excuse why something can't be done or it's too hard.
He studied during meals, during breaks at work, he listened to audio teaching tapes while shaving and getting ready and driving. He didn't own a radio or a tv. He didn't date, or party or socialize. He never let a moment be wasted, that he could be studying somehow. He never wasted a penny that he could put into education. He was committed and had optimum work ethic. He passed the bar exam his first try, aced it actually.
When I met him he had just made partner in the small firm he'd been slaving at. He loved to golf but rarely had time because he put all of himself into his work. He now owns his own firm.
What a long hard road to be good at what you do and make money at it. All the cards were stacked against him every step of the way; he didn't look at the cards he kept both eyes on the prize.
Today his own firm has plenty of lawyers to do his grunt work and he golfs a lot these days and takes his family to the operas and finest eateries. But he paid the price for his rewards. He studied his ass off, he did without to educate himself, he ate a lot of ramen too.
It's all about the mindset. You can do this if you want to bad enough and are willing to pay the price.
Oh my boy child David did slay my Goliath & just like Goliath, they laughed at him a lot till he made that 200 attorney, $450 an hour law firm cry like babies. You don't F around with heroes.
STUDY!!!
That's awesome! Your mindset truly can either make you or break you. I firmly believe in the power of positive thinking. Great story for those struggling with studying and working towards the end result(s).
