
Since the IPO is the first time a company's shares are sold to the public, it can be a big deal. In a sense, the company is giving up ownership of the company to the public, in return for access to cash. The shares are listed on a public exchange, typically the New York Stock Exchange or the NASDAQ in the United States. Owners of companies can become very rich by selling their shares in an IPO. ( and try not ask common questions in chat during trading hrs. :)
