This was a great setup with a multi day, multi month and multi year breakout all lining up. Not a huge percentage gain, but respectable. Just gotta keep hitting singles and let them add up over time.

Are you buying the immediate breakout, or waiting for a confirmed breakout? Thanks

@wat I wait for the confirmed breakout most of the time, and try to get in on the pullback. More recently I've been experimenting with buying the initial breakout and I haven't seen an advantage to that with how I trade. I think the only reason to buy the initial breakout would be to sell into the initial spike and then rebuy on the pullback.

@papajohn I was thinking on PTOTF you bought with partial size on the initial break, then added when it was holding/consolidation just over the breakout, and maybe even more when it broke out of that sideways price action. Thanks for the quick reply!

@wat I’m still under PDT as my money is split between two accounts so I can’t scale into trades yet. I always enter in one trade and then scale out into spikes.

@papajohn I've heard IB you can size in (until your first sell), then you can size out and it's all still one day trade

@wat yeah someone else told me that. I haven’t tried it yet. I went over the PDT limit in both my e trade and TD accounts before by buying the same stock twice in one day for various reasons. So I just stopped doing that. I’m really close to being over PDT so I’ll just keep trading how I have been for now.
