Do you have a "disaster" plan? I just lost $1,000 when the power went out. It's sunny, calm and 75 degrees. Trades weren't executing on the mobile app after power outage...had to call the broker to partially close 1/2 the position (which costs even more in commissions). Maybe I'll be saving up for a generator, that was pretty costly for 2 hours of downtime. Position size was a bit too large as well, which exacerbated this loss...what was setting up to be a good trade turned disastrous...

a laptop with a mobile hotspot is a good idea to have.. especially since internet or power can go out.

yes that is a good idea, haven't had a problem in 4-5 years with a power outage, but you know trading, if it can happen it probably will. trade could have gone much worse, so I guess I should count my blessings and learn.

Anyone use DAS Trader? I am looking for a better level 2 set up than Open Book at IB or Etrade. Basically looking for thoughts on the best Level 2 platforms and please don't beat me down but I should confess I rarely use (like almost never) Level 2 when I'm trading...part of it is Open Book kind of sucks imo. Weekend Book Club: awesome 1957 tome, "The Battle for Investment Survival by GM Loeb. Real fascinating and pretty timeless advice on general market and money matters. 4/5 stars

DAS trader is awesome... and IB now will allow you to use it I heard. DAS seems to be the best platform ive used for order entry on your level 2 montage, quicly load your total position ect.... highly recommend them. Also book trader on IB or ladder trader is fast for quick scalps.

Thanks Planeteyes, yes I saw that you can use DAS on IB recently. Thanks again for your feedback. Do you use book trader much? The documentation (like most of IB) is not real helpful, so any other tips/tricks much appreciated.

I used to use book trader a lot, but you almost have to put it up during the day and see what you do and don't like and go to settings and adjust. It did take a bit to figure out how to make it suitable to me though and I don't remember all the specifics. They do have some webinars that have been recorded that I used to watch. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.
