I figured out a pattern for me. If I have a stock, such as RR in a long term position and get in for a day trade, I tend to treat the stock differently. That has accounted for several losses and not creating stop loss levels. I did this one by the books. Even though it was a loss, it was by the books.

Darn thing tried to fool me into saying it was going to run up. Nope, out before a loss.

Started to run up and quickly failed. Did not want to wait for stop/loss so I simply got out when it was close to what I got in for.

Got in as it was going up. I was "certain" it would do well. Out at S/L.

Picked up on dip. Did not work out well and got out at S/L.

Did all of the wrong things. Got in at the wrong time and added on a dip because "it always comes back". Well, it did not and this is painful. Also had platform issue and it only sold half so by the time I realized it, all went farther south.

Took RR is a dip. Originally intended to buy 11000 shares. Entered order for 1100. Added to position to get to 11000. Now my planned loss is off. Set loss for 1100 before adding to position. Stopped out with on 1100 of the position. Down big on the other 10000.
