Hello again,

 

Alex (goldlotus) here with the 3rd installment of my crypto currency (mis)adventures!

As we left off in the last post, I was holding a little over $600 (CAD) between two of my exchange accounts. I had been reading every crypto related article I could find over the past few weeks and all of a sudden something exploded on the Etherium network.

CryptoKitties.

 

I'm a cat person so sure, it's cute. But then I hear that some of these little digital cat pictures are selling for tens of thousands of real human dollars!!!! Well, with the Crypto landscape seemingly taking off in all directions, it seems well worth the gamble to buy a few of these cats on the cheap, breed them (yes you can make them bang, no you don't get to watch, shame on you, you're sick!) and hope that down the road I can resell for a profit, especially if I pop out one the fabled "Fancy Cats". Yeah I know it all sounds kinda stupid, especially for you dog people but oh well this is the world we live in, opportunity is opportunity, it comes in many shapes and sizes these days.

Meow because I'm not the only hopelessly pathetic cat lover out there and because a couple of them sold for big money, these digital cats became so popular so fast that it completely bogged down the entire Etherium network! I decided to move a small chunk around $36 USD into MetaMask which would allow me to buy a couple of cheap CryptoKitties, or so I thought. The cheapest cats hitting the marketplace at the time were selling for around $9 - $12 and were all "second hand" meaning they have all been bred usually multiple times already. The brand new cats hitting the market the "Gen 0" cats, are very expensive costing hundreds of dollars, way outta my budget. So I'm trying to buy the cheapies, naturally so are many others. I keep refreshing the page, click on the newest, cheapest one as fast as I can and every time somebody already beat me to it. Eventually I actually managed to get one...almost. After struggling with a flurry of cancelled transactions due to "gas" and "gas limit" crap one finally looked like it was going through. It didn't. I had 6 failed buys over 3 different days, watching transactions stuck in limbo, seemingly lost forever. Then finally on my 7th try it worked! And I became the "proud" owner of this goofy bastard.

 

 

But of course there's not much you can do with just one kitty aside from sell it again. But that's not why we're here, we gonna make kitties bang!!! all kindza baby kitties. So meow I had to either buy a kitty or bang someone else's kitty :) I bought myself another kitty figuring I was going to eventually anyway. And then I bought a third, just for good measure. Unfortunately I am meow too low on Etherium to make any of my kitties bang. Because naturally, in today's world nothing is free, not even making your own damn digital pets f#%k! The times we live in....

It took me 18 tries to buy just 3 cats! But the worst part is that for each of those 15 failed transactions, It looks like I was still getting dinged on transaction fees. I lost about 7 or $8 on failed transactions. Kinda sucks, I coulda been using that money to bang my kitties!!! I have meow spent all but a little over $2 of the $30 worth of Etherium I put aside for kitties. Not enough to do anything with so looks like I`ll have to buy some more Etherium, I sold all the crypto holdings in my Kraken account to stay in cash and protect my gains as the whole crypto market took a dive this past week. Some great dip buy opportunities in there, I managed to grab a couple of them myself. You`ll hear all about them in the next issues, stay tuned.
